Our Story
Meet Chef Sangar
Chef Sangar was born in Rania, Kurdistan, in 1988, into a middle-class family whose roots in the city go back generations. At just 15 years old, in 2003, he stepped into his first kitchen — apprenticing for five years under his uncle, Jihangir Ismail Abdulrahman, a seasoned restaurateur who taught him the craft of shawarma from the ground up.
By 2008, Sangar was ready to build something of his own. He bought a share of his uncle's shop, Gas Hana, and a year later opened his first restaurant, Gas Rania — which quickly became one of the busiest spots in town. For a few years he ran two thriving shawarma shops at once.
Then, in 2012, the redevelopment of Rania's market swept away both of his shops. After a period of unemployment, Sangar started over — and in 2018 he opened Gass Dubai. He's been behind the counter, grilling and serving, every day since.
